Lesco Manufacturing

A good business always adapts. Many a businessman has heard the phrase ‘adapt or die’, which is exactly the situation Jonathan Shapiro found himself in when his late grandfather’s original business was forced into liquidation due to labour unrest. Fortunately, adapters are kind of his thing, so he founded Lesco Manufacturing. His company his renowned for its high quality adapters, mulitplugs, switches and sockets for a customer base that includes the electrical wholesale market, distributors and the direct retail market. What sets Lesco apart is products that deliver safe, affordable and time saving features and a range of technical innovations that have registered patents. “Our primary assembly workshops are situated within homes that cater for intellectually disabled persons. In addition, our secondary assembly line is supplemented by an organisation that provides work and shelter for the homeless. Therefore, when engineering the products, we have taken into consideration the ease of assembly and individual limitations and capabilities,” says Jonathan. He points out that the Lesco’s move into the retail market has opened up a raft of new opportunities, and he also hopes to tap into the huge backlog in low cost housing in the country. Looking forward, his goal is to purchase a state of the art plastic injection moulding plant. This, he says, would make Lesco even more efficient and enable it to achieve its goal, which is to “be the lowest cost producer of electrical accessories in SA, supplying all major retailers, building retailers and electrical wholesalers.”
