If a large part of business success is built on chemistry, then Simon Priestley’s company, Spectank, is going to take over the world. Simon and his partner, Martin Glauber, have nearly 60 years experience in the chemical industry between them and are the inventors of the Spectank kitchen equipment cleaning system launched some 20 years ago. The solution removes black carbon build-up from commercial cooking equipment used in bakeries, hotels, restaurants, retail grocery chains, lodges, mines, hospitals and more.Simon says that all that is required is a simple overnight soak in a Spectank, which are capable of running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. He says that tanks are rented to customers and serviced monthly. In addition, he explains, the business also manufactures SABS-certified chemicals and disinfectants, as well as HACCP-compliant colour-coded brushware, disposable food grade cloth, biological products for waste water management, chemical dosing systems and even rent out commercial dish washers. He adds that early next year, the company plans to launch a range of environmentally friendly, organic-based disinfectants and sanitisers, with SABS certification. The constant drive to deliver more is part of the company’s DNA, along with passion, a positive attitude, strong ethics, a belief in the products and an understanding that its greatest assets are its people, its customers and its suppliers.Simon says that his business philosophy is built on the principle of service, service and service! In addition, he says, having a very attractive brand and constantly striving to add value to its local network, as well as being a leader in environmental disinfectants and food safe chemicals, means that Spectank’s next major goal is to expand and licence its solutions in many more countries around the world.
