As a mother herself, Kerry-Anne Formo, has an innate understanding of the needs of parents when choosing their children’s furniture. Coming out of a service industry background, she says that she is extremely customer orientated, which is a key factor in the success of her business, Sugar Shoes.Suppliers of solid wood pieces of furniture for babies and children at the right quality and the right price, Sugar Shoes sells a variety of beds, cots, bunks, chests of drawers and mattresses that are sourced from well-known manufacturers. Kerry-Anne explains that her business adds value by hand-painting the furniture in colours suited for children. The key lies in providing great quality while remaining competitively priced, she adds, pointing out that the company also provides a touch up service, as well as offering to change the colour of an item should the child outgrow it.As a proudly South African owner who loves creating employment opportunities and providing a friendly working environment for staff, she says that her goal is to grow the business into a nationally recognised brand, with at least four retail outlets in the greater Gauteng region and at least one each in Durban and Cape Town. This way, she explains, she would be able to employ many more people.
